I am a Ayurvedic practitioner, a massage therapist, a yogi, a writer, and a producer, interested in all things health and wellness. In my community, I have been asked a lot lately about serving size for Kratom; how to get started and find what is right for you. Whether it’s capsules or powder, people want to know how much Kratom is safe and beneficial to take. Then I found this article and thought I would share how I went about the process.
I approach plant medicine a lot like I do food and herbs. The supplements I use are usually organic, all-natural, and made from botanicals, or plants and I follow a plant based diet. I introduce the nutrients I feel I need for my body, mind and spirit–and see how I feel, and give it time before I try more. If I get what I need, my body immediately knows it and thanks me for it!
Thankfully finding the right serving for Kratom is a bit more simple and pretty consistent across most people. The first time I tried Kratom was in a tea that I didn’t make myself and it was too strong for me. After that, I decided I wanted control of the amount I am taking so I tried making the tea myself and being that I am not much of a baker, I didn’t understand the concept of level teaspoons! I figured out that a teaspoon is about 2.3 grams (moderate dosage). According to this article, a mild serving is 1-2 grams and of course my teaspoons were rounded!
Where it says in the article a mild serving is 5-7 capsules for most people, I found some other important factors I think may apply: height and weight, diet, other supplements, activity level, and lifestyle. I am 5’9”, 135 llbs, I follow a plant-based diet and tend to be fairly sensitive to supplements and most plant medicines. According to this article, Kratom powder should be measured with a digital scale for the most accurate results. Turns out for me that using the powder was a bit too complicated for me.
After all that, I resigned to the fact that I just needed the convenience of pre-measured capsules. I started with one capsule a day, for a few days, to see how I felt. I had a little energy and felt safe to try two after three days. Energy was more sustained throughout the day with two capsules, but tapered off early for me.
I repeated the process to find my final serving between 2-3 capsules in the morning. I got through workouts, my workday and burned enough energy to get a good nights rest. I didn’t have to figure out how to make the tea, deal with the taste, use a scale, or fuss what-so-ever! Done!
